Using the eAIP

Layout

The left hand side of the browser window contains:

• Commands frame:
  • The name of the AIP state(s) to which this eAIP relates
  • A link to this eAIP's cover page
  • A link to the history page
  • A link to the PDF format of the currently selected AIP section
  • A link to this page
  • A link to organisation information relating to this eAIP
• AIP navigation menu:
  • AIP tab
  • AMDT tab
  • SUPs tab
  • AICs tab

The right hand side of the browser window will display the eAIP content.

AIP tab

Displays the eAIP table of contents.

Clicking on a + or a - sign expands/collapses the AIP table of contents.

Clicking on a title opens the relevant part in the content pane of the eAIP window.

AMDT tab

Amendment information is not shown by default. To see what has changed on a page, check the box in the top right corner of the right frame to make the changes visible. Please note that loading these changes may take some time.

The AMDT tab in the left frame contains a detailed list of all changes in the eAIP, ordered by section (and, depending on how the eAIP has been created, by a higher level grouping). Click a triangular arrow next to a section to see the corresponding change highlighted in the right hand side frame.

Changes in the eAIP are marked as follows:

AIRAC Amendments

• Insertions into the eAIP are shown with a light pink background.
• Deletions are shown with a dark pink background and a line-through effect.

Non-AIRAC Amendments

• Insertions into the eAIP are shown with light blue background.
• Deletions are shown with dark blue background and a line-through effect.

Note that it is of course possible that there is no change in the section your are reading, even if the "Show Amendments" box is ticked.

SUPs tab

The SUPs tab lists relevant Supplements for this eAIP effective date. Each Supplement is shown with:

• Number/Year
• Affected AIP section(s)
• Period of validity
• Subject title of the SUP

AICs tab

The AICs tab lists relevant Circulars for this eAIP effective date. Each circular is shown with:

• Number/Year
• Publication date
• Subject title of the AIC

Graphics and Charts

This eAIP contains graphics and charts in various electronic formats. The following list indicate the tools needed for each format.

• PNG, GIF, JPEG: all Web browsers are expected to support these formats natively.
• PDF: A PDF file reader must be installed to display PDF files. All PDF files in this eAIP package are compliant with PDF specification 1.5 or below. Adobe Reader version 5 is one example of compatible software.
• SVG: Scalable Vector Graphic files require an SVG viewer software to be installed. Some browsers, such as recent versions of Mozilla Firefox, support SVG natively.

System and software requirements

• The version of the HTML used by the eAIP [produced from the eAIP xslt] is DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional
• The scripting language used by the eAIP for display in web browsers is Javascript
• The scripting language version used by the eAIP for display in web browsers is dependent on the web browser being used to render the content. Most modern browsers support Javascript version 1.6
• The W3C HTML Validator was referenced to determine valid markup of the eAIP content.
• The eAIP can be viewed with any modern browser. However, using Firefox browsers is recommended to avoid inconsistencies (e.g. a broken link to the current section in PDF format) due to security settings.
  The latest version of Firefox can be downloaded from the Firefox website.
• The PDF created by the eAIP system is compatible with Acrobat 5.0 (PDF 1.4).
• Adobe Acrobat Reader version 5.0.5 (or higher) is required to view and print PDF-documents. The latest version of the Acrobat Reader can be downloaded from the Adobe site.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I see strange characters in the eAIP?

You may be viewing the eAIP with the wrong character set. Set the correct encoding as follows:

• In Firefox:
  View > Character Encoding > Unicode (UTF-8)
• In Internet Explorer:
  View > Encoding > Unicode (UTF-8)

Is there any other nifty eAIP navigation stuff I don't know about?

Maybe! Did you know:

• You can see the explanation for underlined abbreviations by hovering over them with your mouse pointer?
• You can see the full name of an airport by y hovering over its underlined location indicator with your mouse pointer?
• You can view the notes in ENR 3 route tables by hovering over the small note lines (they look like this: ⁽¹⁾) with your mouse pointer?
