ATIS/D-ATIS and VOLMET/D-VOLMET Systems at the Airports of Georgia
“Sakaeronavigatsia” Ltd, in cooperation with the Norwegian company “ACAMS AS”, successfully completed the project that provided for further strengthening of the MET and ATC services of 3 international airports in Georgia and their equipment with the state-of-the-art systems (ATIS/D-ATIS and VOLMET/D-VOLMET).
Availability of meteorological information at the airports is one of the most important conditions for provision of safe flights. Meteorological and other operational information is disseminated over the air via ATIS system radio stations, and aircraft crews promptly receive all the information necessary for takeoff/landing.
Both actual and forecast field meteorological information will be disseminated through the VOLMET system throughout the FIR on a specially allocated radio frequency, so that the flight crew in the air can receive timely information about the expected weather at the aerodromes (Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Batumi) and, therefore, make an appropriate decision – on landing or on flying to the backup aerodrome. In future, VOLMET information will be supplemented by actual and forecast weather transmission from the international airports of the neighboring states - Armenia and Azerbaijan, which will give regional significance to the VOLMET system.
“Today, as the aviation industry is constantly developing and the safety standards are rising even higher, it is essential to introduce such state-of-the-art technologies that contribute to safe and efficient control of flights. Introduction of ATIS/D-ATIS and VOLMET/D-VOLMET systems is a crucial step for MET and ATC services. These technologies not only improve safety and operational efficiency, but also ensure compliance with the international standards in the field of aviation and, at the same time, allow us to make the infrastructure more competitive and safer”, - said Gocha Mezvrishvili, Director General of “Sakaeronavigatsia” Ltd.
“We would like to express our gratitude to the entire team of “Sakaeronavigatsia” Ltd for their cooperation and we are pleased to enjoy the opportunity to support the control of Georgian airspace in the coming years. We are proud that “Sakaeronavigatsia” Ltd will continue to ensure safety, efficiency and long-term reliability with our systems. The information, disseminated through this system, plays an important role in provision of smooth aeronautical operations worldwide”, - said Leif Kreiberg, Director General of ACAMS.
